After a remarkable first appearance in Tokyo in 2020, surfing will make its grand return to the Olympic stage, this time in the legendary waters of Teahupo'o, in French Polynesia, July 27 to August 5, 2024. Here's a glimpse of the talents who'll be competing on these legendary waves.

French athletes in the spotlight
As host nation, France will field a team of surfers already well established on the international scene:
Johanne Defay : Originally from La Réunion, Johanne is a regular on the Championship Tour. Ninth at Tokyo 2020, she is now aiming for a podium finish at Teahupo'o.
Vahiné Fierro: The young Tahitian, known for her ease in powerful waves, is perfectly prepared for Teahupo'o.
Kauli Vaast: This Tahitian surfer, who grew up surfing this famous spot, knows the waves of Teahupo'o like the back of his hand.
Joan Duru: This French surfing veteran proved he's still a contender not to be underestimated at the last World Surfing Games.
International stars
A number of world surfing icons will also be taking part:
Carissa Moore (United States): The reigning Olympic champion is the favourite to retain her title.
Gabriel Medina (Brazil): Qualified thanks to an additional quota, Medina is formidable, especially in the Teahupo'o tubes.
Filipe Toledo (Brazil), John John Florence (USA), and Kanoa Igarashi (Japan) are also names to watch, each having proven their ability to excel under pressure.
